The term ‘Philosophy’ is derived from the two Greek words ‘philos’ and ‘sophia’ which means “love of wisdom”.
It is concerned with a search for eternal truth.
Philosophy is a study of general principles, a way of life.
A way of asking questions and understanding about the most general and basic problems of human experience, meaning and relationship.
Philosophy is not something to be studied; it is rather something to do.
The subject matter of philosophy is comprehensive indeed.
It seeks to know the real value of things as distinct from their face value.
Philosophy is mostly an idea of what is possible and not a record of accomplished facts. Hence it is hypothetical.
It may or may not be proved true.
It is presently an assignment something to be tried. There is not finality.
It’s chief value has lies not in furnishing solutions but in defining difficulties and suggesting ways and means of dealing with them.
Philosophy is also known for the cultivation of excellent thinking.
The objectives of philosophy are to consider the rational justification of logical inferences, human values, criteria for establishing the claims of knowledge and interpretations of the nature of reality.
